The decisive question
How do we identify persistent harmful states without treating every nondividing cell as a problem?
Why this direction
This proposed program starts with measurement heterogeneity. A single stain, secreted factor, or image feature should not decide whether a cell needs removal, repair, or no intervention. Context and tissue function come first.
What a useful result would need
- Agreement and disagreement among independent cell-state readouts
- Clear separation of quiescence, injury responses, and persistent dysfunction
- Evidence of tissue-relevant harm or benefit
- Effects on neighboring cells and normal recovery
Advance and stop conditions
Document the cell type and trigger for every senescence claim.
Keep classification performance separate from therapeutic efficacy.
Reject a universal senescence score without external validation.
What is not being claimed
No senolytic drug regimen, human testing, or diagnostic senescence score is available from Karam.
