Microscopy scale check

Convert a pixel measurement using a known scale bar in the same image.

Inputs

Default inputs are illustrative examples, not data from a published study. No input is transmitted to Karam.

Method & assumptions

The scale bar and feature must be measured in the same, uniformly resized image. This does not correct perspective, optical distortion, or inconsistent magnification. Cropping is acceptable; unequal stretching is not.

Sanity check

A 200-pixel scale bar representing 50 µm gives 0.25 µm/pixel; an 80-pixel feature is 20 µm.

Scale = reference µm / reference pixels
Feature length (µm) = measured pixels × scale
