What was reported
Researchers at the University of Hyderabad disrupted the TOP2B promoter in HEK293T cells and observed senescence. It is a useful counterexample to the idea that removing gene activity necessarily rejuvenates cells. [C11]
What the result does not establish
HEK293T is an immortalized laboratory model, not normal aged human tissue. The finding is a directional warning, not a validated human-aging target.
Measured endpoint
Senescent phenotypes following promoter disruption.
Karam’s next question
Is a candidate intervention impairing cell maintenance rather than restoring it, and does the chosen model expose that risk?
Assessment-derived brief. Cited in the supplied 15 October 2026 project assessment; not independently reviewed in this website release. Karam has not reproduced the experiment or independently audited the underlying dataset. This is not Karam-generated evidence.
